Where did the name Studio 52 come from?
STUDIO: A safe space where artists learn, collaborate, discover, and explore creative possibilities.
52: Flat Rock Playhouse was officially established in 1952!
What age student can participate at Studio 52?
Current programs are available to artists ages five to adults!
Do students need prior experience to participate in a class or workshop at Studio 52?
Unless otherwise specified in a class description, no prior experience is required to learn with Studio 52. All we ask is that artists bring their imaginations and enthusiasm. Faculty at Studio 52 approach learning with a sense of joy and adventure and will work with each student to build confidence and motivate them in their personal artistic journey.
As in-person programs resume, what COVID safety measures are you taking?
Studio 52 is taking every possible precaution to ensure the safety and well-being of our staff, students, and community. Our key safety measures* for in-person programs are:
Limited class sizes.
Masks requirements indoors for staff and students.
Use of outdoor spaces whenever possible for increased ventilation during classes and performance.
Modified activities to ensure proper social distancing
Outdoor drop off and pick up. (Indoor gathering spaces and classrooms are closed to anyone except staff and students.)
Hand sanitizer stations in every space.
Staggered bathroom breaks and routine cleaning of bathrooms.
Routine cleaning for all shared spaces and surfaces.
The option to transition to virtual learning at any time should a participant report exposure or illness.
*These policies are subject to change based on the guidance from state and local health authorities.
Who teaches Studio 52 classes and camps?
Studio 52 has assembled a fun and experienced faculty of professional educators and artists. While each teaching artist brings their own flare and unique perspective to the classroom, all faculty are committed to creating a safe and fun learning environment.
Can I pay for tuition in installments?
Yes. Partial payments for tuition-based classes or camps may be made over the phone by calling the Box Office at (828) 693-0731. A deposit is required to secure the student’s spot in the program.
Are discounts available for multiple students or multiple classes or camps?
Students and families that register for more than one class or camp are offered a $15-$25 discount for each additional class or camp within most semesters. This offer applies to multiple programs for one student or family discounts for siblings.
Are scholarships available?
Yes! Scholarships are available for all tuition-based classes and camps. The Dave Hart Scholarship Fund was created in memory of Studio 52's friend, artist, and educator Dave Hart. The application form includes basic student, guardian, and household information as well as a short written statement outlining the purpose and significance of a scholarship.
If I apply for a scholarship should I also register for the class?
No. Scholarship spots are saved for recipients in each tuition-based program. Please do not also register online for the class.
As a parent or guardian, am I allowed to sit in on my child's class?
Our classes are closed to parents and visitors to create a safe and focused environment. If your child needs additional support in a program, accommodations can be made with the education staff on a case-by-case basis.
My child is very advanced for their age. Can they take class with an older group?
Students are intentionally divided into age-appropriate classes based on emotional and cognitive development. Additionally, we choose class content that is exciting and relevant to each age group. For these reasons, we stick to the age and grade parameters set for each program.
