Volunteers
Supporting Players
The Volunteer Guild of Flat Rock Playhouse
The Supporting Players were founded in 1993 as a corps of
volunteers dedicated to supporting Flat Rock Playhouse and
The Vagabond School of the Drama, Inc.. The members of the
Supporting Players are willing to donate a bit of their time
to involve themselves in some key projects for the benefit
of the Playhouse. Anyone with a few hours to spare is welcome.
There are no monthly meetings and the organization functions
from April through December. Activities Include:
Spring Membership Reception
This annual event welcomes new and current members with a
afternoon cocktail party featuring wine and hors d'oeuvres.
The 2007
party included a Season Preview, volunteer activities discussion
with the Board of Directors, and a behind the scenes tour
with Associate Artistic Director, Scott Treadway.
Strike Night Meals
For the changeover between shows, a dedicated committee prepares
meals for the crew of the Playhouse as they "strike" the
sets from one show and erect the sets for the next. This
year there are 10 strikes nights. The changeovers are long
and hard so having a good meal is a great help and lets the
crew know they are really appreciated. Coordinators Donna
Kent and Elizabeth Kohl can use all the volunteers they can
get.
Dark Night Review Annual Fundraiser
This one-night-only event is the Playhouse’s official
fundraiser and a joyful collaboration between volunteers and
staff. The Supporting Players host a Gourmet Picnic for 300
attendees and an exciting Silent Auction & Raffle. The
Playhouse Company produces an evening of performance including
music, dance and lots of laughs. Guests can choose to buy tickets for the picnic and show ($125
or $100) or the performance only ($30) A portion of each ticket
is tax deductible.
Since their inception in 1993, The Supporting Players have
contributed more than $180,000 to the Playhouse. These Donations
have helped fund furnishings for the new Actors' housing, refrigeration
equipment for the dining hall, office furniture, equipment
for the graphics department, items for the YouTheatre, and
improvements to the sound system. Funds for the 2006 Dark Night
Revue will support the YouTheatre Educational Campus.
Consider
becoming an underwriter for the Dark Night Revue. Your contribution
of $50 or more, either as a business or individual,
will greatly help increase the resources available for this
important and much needed project. To thank you, you will
be invited to be our guest for a special Wine & Dessert Party
followed by a dress rehearsal of a fall production.

The Spotlighters
The Support Guild for the YouTheatre
The Spotlighters is the support guild for the YouTheatre program.
It is comprised mostly of parents, grandparents and students
of YouTheatre and perhaps a few others who feel strongly about
supporting the growth of children’s theatre.
The primary role of Spotlighters is to support the staff and
students of YouTheatre in a variety of ways, whether assisting
with productions, ushering at YouTheatre performances, selling
concessions, hosting cast parties, publicizing events, taking
photos of classes and shows, preparing “care packages” and
plaques for recent graduates, etc.
Spotlighters originated in the Fall of 1994 and operates as
a component/committee of The Vagabond School of the Drama,
Inc. Membership is open to any person interested in the promotion
of YouTheatre and the work of the Spotlighters. Most importantly,
Spotlighters serve as “ambassadors to the community.” They
tell friends and community members about the program, encouraging
them to come to productions.

Ushers
At each public performance eight Volunteer Ushers work under
the direction of the House Manager to facilitate the comfort
of Playhouse Patrons. Assisting with preparing the auditorium,
playbills, seating and special needs of Patrons is the
primary focus. Ushers arrive one hour before the play begins
and
stay until the auditorium has been cleared. During the
performance Ushers are welcome to take a seat and enjoy the
show. The
Usher Guild welcomes active volunteers who enjoy people
and plays.
