Music on the Rock began in our intimate 130-seat rehearsal hall in May of 2010. Despite the success of those early performances, none of us could have imagined that three years later, we would be performing in a beautiful new venue in front of 10,000 patrons annually. The Music on the Rock series was conceived as an opportunity for the nationally renowned singers that grace the Playhouse stage throughout the year to step away from musical theater and utilize their considerable skill to reinterpret some of the greatest popular music of the past century. We don’t do impersonations and we don’t present cover bands. We collaborate with extraordinary performers at the top of their game in celebration of some of America and Great Britain’s most iconic artists and bands. What was it like to hear the Beatles in their prime? To experience the unique sound of Frankie Valli or the passion of a young Barbara Streisand for the first time? Music on the Rock is about evoking emotional answers to those questions by presenting the soundtrack to our collective American experience. I can’t imagine a better way to spend twenty-four dollars!
