Intern Program

The Intern Program

Entering college, university, graduate program or the professional workplace? No matter where you are, attaining the skills necessary to make it in theatre is no easy task. Taking advantage of every opportunity to develop as a designer, painter, technician stage manager, or administrator – as a theatre professional others will want to work with – in a creative environment is absolutely essential in the performing arts.  A Technical Internship at Flat Rock Playhouse is exactly what you need to take your education in theatre and expand it into a theatre career.

This Playhouse Summer and/or Fall Educational Intensive serves to bridge Interns from their prior academic experience to their exposure to professional practices. They have the opportunity to work with professional United Scenic Artist Designers, Actors’ Equity Association Stage Managers, professional painters, theatrical artists and technicians from all over the country. Interns will engage in true hands-on training in the fields of their choice as well as networking and establishing invaluable contacts for their future.

This program fosters personal growth and artistic exploration through attending master classes as well as setting and working toward individualized goals.

The student is further encouraged by mid-term and final personal evaluations, both intended to assist interns toward reaching their highest quality of achievement while taking the next steps in their careers. In addition, the Playhouse will provide written evaluations/forms for any students receiving university credit through their individual schools.

The Vagabond Players were founded in 1936 and from the inception of the Company, training theatre artists has been a vital part of the mission. Over the years more than 1,000 students have benefited from the challenging and rewarding experience of being Technical Interns or Apprentices on The Rock. The Company of Vagabond Players believes in growing our own and maintaining lasting working and personal relationships.
