Flat Rock Playhouse

PlayhouseDusk2_001The barn-like appearance of the main stage facility is reminiscent of our summer stock beginnings, but today it houses state of the art lighting and sound systems, electronic stages,  costume studio/storage, and dressing room space for 40. The Auditorium seats 506 patrons in air-conditioned comfort. There is reserved seating for patrons with special needs and assistive listening devices are available at no additional charge.

With the 2011 Season, Flat Rock Playhouse launched a second venue in Historic Downtown Hendersonville. Located at 125 South Main Street, the former 9,500 square foot office space was converted into a multi-purpose performance space. The Downtown Auditorium can be adjusted for either "theatre-in-the round" seating or "three-quarter thrust" and can seat 250 patrons.

Albert S. Gooch Scenic Studio

Adjoining the main stage is the scenic studio fully equipped for scenic construction, welding, painting, properties craft storage and construction.

Concession Stand

Concession_StandLocated in the garden courtyard beside the main stage, the concession stand serves light snacks, sodas, beer, wine, mixed beverages and Leona’s Honey Lemonade (a Playhouse tradition). Also available are souvenirs including ball caps, tee-shirts, sweats and other collectables. The Concession Stand opens one hour prior to each performance and is open at intermission.

Rehearsal Hall

childrenThis facility is used as a rehearsal space for all productions. Newly renovated in 2010, this space serves as the location for the Music on the Rock series and can seat up to 130 patrons. 

Lowndes House

lowndeshouseThis historic home was built in 1885 by Richard I’on Lowndes. The Playhouse Administrative Offices and Box Office are located in main floor and what was the carriage house.

Artist and Student Housing: Jim-Dan Dee Hall

Visiting artists and students are housed on property and served meals in the staff dining hall.

Robin R. Farquhar YouTheatre Education Center

Classes now range from kindergarten to twelfth grade. They also include the apprentices and interns, and even offer dance and acting programs for adults. The Education Center has classrooms, a professional sprung dance floor, multi-media library, conference room, music room, teacher offices, a video/computer room for archives and educational video and DVD, costume and properties work/design and storage, restrooms, parent waiting areas, sound booth, and—often overlooked—ample storage.YouTheatre2
